The Radio Bandito project has its roots in the “Church of Spessology” YouTube broadcasts from the end of 2021 (about fifteen episodes); and for the last several months it has continued to expand, involving more and more people (we have over 70 DJs and collaborators), from many different backgrounds.
The radio exploded in the first three months, bringing together around thirty of the best veterans of the Turin radio scene (RadioFlash, Radio Black Out, Radio Torino Popolare), enthusiasts, DJs, nightclubbers -all belonging to age-old and deep-rooted musical and social subcultures – and quickly developed a dynamic presence not only in the city, but also participated in and organized evenings in clubs, pubs, squats, parties, and cultural and social events and festivals in Italy.
In addition to the various partnerships around Italy, one of the feathers in our hat is undoubtedly the collaboration with the members of Sabot, Chris Rankin and Hilary Binder, who regularly broadcast: the former from the Czech Republic, and the latter from her new cultural center in Abruzzo .
Radio Bandito has one editorial office in Berlin, and others are planned for Europe in 2024 (Barcelona first and foremost).
Since April 2022, only half of the approximately 70 members broadcast from what is now the headquarters in Turin; all the others collaborate remotely from various parts of Italy and Europe.
The radio is formally structured as a non-profit cultural association. It has a board of directors (work in progress), which deals with structuring and organizing radio activities, self-financing activities, and collaborating with other individuals and associations; reviews movies, books, sports, current affairs, social events, and youth and non-youth cultures; has two programs on art, a service program dedicated to local public transport, one with radical criticism of new technologies, one on theater, a weekly agenda of musical events, a professional program with a gastronomic background, and another which hosts live bands and artists directly in the studio every Saturday.
Radio Bandito hosts the broadcast of the Association “Seminiamo Principi,” which aims to provide support to people suffering from pathologies who are interested in undertaking a therapeutic journey with cannabis.
The tools we plan to adopt in the future also include participation in Italian and European public tenders, which can allow us to vastly increase the number of events, collaborations, meetings, etc., with various entities throughout Europe. For now, the radio is supported through donations from listeners and hosts, and with the sale of our merchandise to members.
